All right… In this post, I’m going to shift gears from the general tone of this site. Usually I’m a pretty happy-go-lucky kind of guy who uses humor and personal experiences to get my point across.
Today’s going to be a little different. Consider this post to be wake up call. If you are NOT living (or working towards) the life you’ve always pictured, then I want you pay close attention to what I’m about to discuss.
That’s because in the next 1,000+ words, I’m going to give you a few pointers about how to create your dream life.
Everything Starts TODAY
Today is the day to be really honest about things. You have already wasted a lot of precious years spinning your wheels and making the same mistakes over and over again.
Today, you might be sitting in a chair watching life go by.
Today, you have a head full of dreams, but no strategy for achieving them.
Today, you might not know how to get started.
Well, to coin a much overused phrase, “Today is the first day of the rest of your life.”
Even if you’re sitting there, completely frustrated with how things are turning out, there is still plenty of opportunity to get what you want from life.
And I don’t care how old (or young you are), it’s never too late to achieve your heart’s desire. Just remember Grandma Moses didn’t start painting till she was well into her 70’s.
What’s Important to YOU???
First and foremost you have to define what’s important to you. Not just what, but why as well. I suggest you write this stuff down so that you can be completely clear on what you are looking at and wanting in your life. Be concise, be clear and throw realistic out the window.
Define your dream life by defining what’s important to you.
For me, being able to travel, have plenty of money, spend time with my loved ones, and live life is important to my sense of fulfillment.
For you it may be sending your kids to college, paying off the house and retiring to Hawaii. Doesn’t matter so long as it is important to YOU!
Eliminate ALL Excuses
Next, discover all the excuses you use for not making your dream life a reality. No one has ever got anywhere in life by wearing a leash. I don’t care what you “think or feel” is holding you back; it all comes back to your mindset.
You may want to finish college BUT not have the money. You may want to start your own business BUT not have a clue how to do it. Whatever follows your BUT in life is the first thing you have to eliminate.
Creating Money to Fund Your Dream Life
I guarantee you that you are like 99% of the people in this world and the BUT has something to do with money or the lack thereof. This brings me to my next VERY important point. You have to earn money. You have to find a way to make more money than you have so you can eliminate this BUT.
So many people just want to do what they want to do and earn a living doing it. You may want to do mission work in Costa Rica; but I guarantee you won’t be able to make a living doing it. So, you have to set up a system of making money.
This system of making money may not be the most relevant to your dreams and it may not even be something you are interested in, but it is the only way to kick the BUT out of your life. The easiest way to do this is to set up automated systems of making money using the Internet.
Wait! I hear the garbage going through your mind. No matter how noble your perfect life may be and no matter how much you want you your dream life for the betterment of life as you know it – you can’t move forward without capital. End of story!
Even if the making money part feels “fishy” to you or like something that isn’t part of your dream; the hard cold truth is that you have to have money to make your dream life come true!
Expanding Your Comfort Zone and Changing Your Mindset
Next, it’s important to continue to expand your comfort zone. If you are a writer or poet and want to spend your days at a seaside resort writing books, you have to earn money first. No matter how difficult it may feel at first you have to give your dreams enough credit to expand your comfort zone. In other words, take action to earn the money that will afford you your dream life!
Learn how to affiliate market. Learn how to use the web, learn how to travel free of charge, learn how to do the things in life that will set you free to pursue the life you really want. Realize that you can’t live your best life, the one you really want – unless you have the financial freedom to do so. Without a doubt, this means you have to spend time implementing a system that will take care of itself.
The rational is the same as a boss who hires the best people to run his company. This way he is free to play golf, take vacations and live the life he dreams about all the while knowing that his ‘money maker,’ his business is being taken care of while he is away. Automated money takes a little bit of effort to set up but it is always worth it in the end.
Start Taking Action…Today!
All right, you have your goals in mind. Your vision is clear. You have defined the life that is important to you. You realize you have to make money. You step out of your comfort zone a bit so that you can find the means to making enough money and eliminating all the BUTS that were holding you back.
Now you take action. You do this by performing 5 things every day of your life that put you on the path to creating your dream life. Doing 5 things, both simple and complex takes your larger goal and breaks it down into manageable pieces that will help you to realize immediate results. With every 5 things you do, you are one or even two steps closer.
Dream creation is not that difficult. The biggest obstacle to living your dreams is YOUR mindset. As you remain flexible and open, willing to receive and able to step out of your box to find the means, you will create your dream life in no time.
It is frustrating for me to see so many people with so many dreams and so much talent just wasting away in a life that gives them nothing in return.
Living week to week, paycheck to paycheck or just barely getting by is a worthless existence.
Living without being able to capitalize on your passions will only provide you with a forgettable and regrettable life.
Don’t let that be you.
Take Action. Get Results.
Awesome Steve! Way to go with a different style on this post. It was an exhilarating read. It’s like a hammer and a nail sometimes. Some take longer to get in, other go right in. Your words definitely have the right level of guidance and inspiration to help people get there.

Thanks Alex. It seems like people respond better to the “pep talk” kind of stuff which isn’t something I normally do. But now I’m starting to think I should include more of these type of articles.
Hmm,
Very insightful post. I appreciate your talent.
Very Good job.
Thanks Olusegun!
Hey Scott,
I really have been enjoying your writing lately. I guess the big challenge for me is finding out what it is I can do that a: I am REALLY passionate about and b: Will it generate enough money for me in what type of timeframe.
I have my bags packed and I am ready to go…but,,,,survival is important.
Thanks Taylor!
Those are definitely the two most important questions you should be asking yourself… I did take a look at your blog and think this is something people would be interested in. I’m not sure how you can monetize it, but maybe you can promote ebooks as an affiliate which teach how to create a home that lives off the grid?
Thanks alot Scott,
I have been working hard on both of these and seem to be getting some small earlystage traffic…not alot…but some;)
This is such good advice, and such a great kick in the butt. Thanks for RT’ing this today, I needed to read it.

Thanks Jillian…appreciate you taking the time to do this.
Talk about great timing! I when I opened my eyes this morning your site was the first thing to pop into my head. I’m in the process of writing my ebook based on my experiences but lately I’ve been stuck as how to present it. Should it just be my story? A how to guide? A how not to guide? That ambivalence has put a serious choke hold on my writing all week.
Then I remembered your step by step how to guide on writing an ebook and now I’m game to getting my ebook out there. My goals are very similar to yours. Travel and freedom to do what I want when I want is number one and I can’t do it as often as I’d want if I quit my dream and went to work for someone else.
Would you mind looking at my blog and giving me some pointers as to what angle I can take my ebook into? I’d really appreciate it Steve.
Joy!
Ms. Babe
Hard to say,
For writing your first eBook the most important thing is usually passion. What makes you really want to write. Since your story is unique (at least as far as I know…) from a blog POV I would say doing your story as the meat and potatoes sounds like the way to go. The big question is some sort of “hook” without coming off too salsy.
Some sort of soft sell of, “Life of a sugarmoma…learn how to achieve wonderful lifestyle and succeed” I am generally not a fan of over-hyped stuff, but it seems kind of ripe for a little hype (done with a light touch)
Not sure if that helps at all…
Thank you, this was a great, to-the-point list of fundamental steps. What resonated to me the most was, “The biggest obstacle to living your dreams is YOUR mindset.”
So true.
Thanks Steve. Great advice both for me and my two sons. My younger son is unemployed and I rack my brain everyday to try and give some encouraging words to him.
