A Lesson Punxsutawney Phil Taught Me

I just got back from a fun night/morning in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Yup, that’s right…I drove five hours to the middle of nowhere to watch Phil the groundhog make his yearly prediction.

And as I was standing there, freezing my butt off, I had a random thought. Something I want to share with you today. But before we get to that, let me give you a bit of background…

The Basic Decision Workflow Diagram

For the last few months I’ve been using a tool that helps me make basic decisions. Created by Jed at The Newly Rich, this Workflow Diagram is great for those moments when an outside influence is trying to get more of your time.

I have this diagram printed out and tacked to my wall. Then whenever I have an idea for my affiliate marketing business, I refer to this chart. If it can’t be outsourced I’m not going to do it. My time is too important to me. So I use this diagram to remind me to NOT waste my life chasing after every little dollar.

6 Reasons Why You Should Be An Affiliate Marketer

In a recent post I discussed how my primary business is affiliate marketing. While it’s taken me a few years to make it semi-automated, I still think it’s a great option for people who want to have freedom while running a remote business. As of today, I spend an average of five hours a week on this business. The best part is… it generates a sizeable and predictable amount of income.

Is Affiliate Marketing Right For You?

I honestly feel affiliate marketing is a great business for many people. Especially those who embrace the concept of lifestyle design.

30DSHS- Improve My Writing Skills

This is the first of what I’m calling the “30 Day Success Habits Series.” In this monthly column, I’m going to talk about the different behaviors I’m trying to create or eliminate for the next 30 days. The idea here is to give a perspective on what it’s like to try to develop a success habit. Hopefully this series will give you that extra *nudge* to change some of your behaviors.

If you want to know more about this concept, take a look at my post about 30 day success habits.

Developing the 30 Day Success Habit

Once in a while you come across something that completely changes your life. This happened to me late last year.

While scrolling through Steve Pavlina’s site, I came across his concept of the 30 Day Habit Experiment. His idea is to “test drive” a specific habit for 30 days. Then at the end of this period you make a decision to keep it or not.

As you probably know it’s a challenge to develop (or change) a habit. But if you introduce this concept into your personal growth, it becomes much easier to develop successful habits.

Here’s why…

Personal Growth Goals For 2010

Over a week ago I described my professional goals for 2010. In this post I discussed how I was going to spend the majority of the year focusing on “communications.” Specifically I want to improve my writing, speaking, and technology skills.

But goal setting isn’t just about professional growth. I also think it’s important to create challenges that’ll help me grow as a man. This is part of my ‘work hard, play hard’ mantra. So while I’m focusing on my communication skills, I also want to set aside time to work on my personal growth.

Affiliate Marketing Defined

Sometimes I don’t like meeting new people. That’s because after we exchange names I’ll usually get the inevitable question – “So what do you do for a living?” After seven years I still don’t have a response which makes sense to the average cubicle dweller.

Internet Marketing is my usual reply. Unfortunately this answer usually attracts a bunch of follow-up questions. Some are normal. Like “Who are your clients?” or “My computer does ____. Can you fix it?” Some are just plain stupid. Like “Are you a spammer?” or “Do you run a porn site?”

It’s hard to describe what I do for a living because I don’t go to an office. I don’t have any clients. And I don’t have the typical 9 to 5 lifestyle.

What is Lifestyle Design?

One of the main topics I’ll be covering on this site is Lifestyle Design. So what is it? In his book The 4-Hour Workweek, Tim Ferriss describes lifestyle design as a way to structure your life so you enjoy it right now instead of waiting till retirement.

Tim discussed how there’s a lot of misinformation about wealth. His ideas challenge the premise that you need millions in the bank before you get to fulfill your dreams. The idea behind lifestyle design is to stop putting off your goals. With a little bit of creativity and planning you can create ANY reality… starting today

Hiker

Now I’ll admit that lifestyle design is a crazy concept for some. It seemed like a wacky idea to me at first. So in this post I’m going to cover the basics of lifestyle design and hopefully show that it’s something that most people can do in their lives.

J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets

For the past 25 years, I’ve been a loyal New York Giants fan. But it’s kind of cool to see the excitement that’s been build around the New York Jets. They’re playing in San Diego today at 4:00 PM (EST).

My Professional Development Goals For 2010

Well we’ve reached the halfway point for the first month of 2010. By now most people have forgotten about their New Year’s Resolutions. Usually I don’t make resolutions. Instead I like to focus on a specific area of my life for the upcoming year and try to improve it.

Writing goals for 2010 in a notebook.

So what is my goal for 2010? In short, I’m going to focus on “communications.” As I try to expand my online businesses, I’ve come to realize that my skills are lacking in a number of key areas. I’m going to fix this by targeting certain aspects of communication. Like the following:
