Steve’s Sunday Selections- August 15, 2010

Another week has flown by.  I am now visiting (beautiful?) Liverpool; best known as home of the Beatles.  What better way to end off the week with some theme music to honor the Fab Four:

On this nice Sunday morning it is best to end your week (or start it; depending on how you view Sunday’s) with a lesson in positivity. Dia gives us a great one.

To continue the theme of positivity and growth El gives us a moving and personal story that should not be missed.

In case you missed it, Ben stopped in here this week and gave us a great guest post about gave about lessons in not quitting . If you like that one there is another post from Ben that you shouldn’t miss. He talks about how it is not always how much you know, but how quickly you can access the information

Jonny gives us a great blog post about the positive traits of the fabulously wealthy that we can use to achieve our own success.

Josh came up with a two part video series this week. Combined the videos discuss 10 reasons why some blogs are more popular than others. Part I Part II.

A couple of the ideas in the 2nd part of Josh’s video reminded me of the importance of having a “voice” for your writing. As coincidence would have it Nathan had a great post about the importance of having a “voice” this week.

Alex is always an amusing read, how he can make me laugh while talking about a dry subject like social bookmarking I do not know. But I did. As an added benefit the article actually teaches you a lot as well.

You hear a lot from people in their blogs about how to “make money”, “increase subscribers” how to “increase sales” etc. Everyone seems to forget the single most important word in business: customer. Joshua gives us an invaluable lesson about the importance of creating a customer over a sale.

To round out the week we have two articles on the importance of content.

First up we have Glen with a great article on improving the content and “zing” of your posts. Finally we have Jonathon talking to us about the ways that less can get you more sometimes when it come to writing.

What type of blogger would I be if I did not occasionally stoop to crass self promotion, so as a reminder I have a free eBook on  “hot internet marketing niches” out there for you all.

Well that’s it for this week! I definitely recommend you check all these articles and support these sites through Tweets, blog comments, and submitting to sites like Digg.  They work hard to provide content…so show them some love!

Take Action. Get Results.

  1. Thanks for the mention Steve and for allowing me to post for you this week – it was an honor.

Have a fab time in Liverpool!

  2. Hey Steve,

Must say a big THANK YOU for posting both videos that I created on what it takes to have a popular blog. I spent a lot of time researching this info. Following those 10 reasons there is no doubt that anyone who owns a blog will be able to generate 1000s of visitors daily just like the big dogs.

    Have a great week!
    Josh

  3. Awww Steve, I missed this one earlier but thanks to seeing Ben’s tweet, headed back over to see what you’d come up with. When I read ‘El’ I thought, ‘there’s someone else around here called El? Wow. Must say hello to her!’ but hovering over the hyperlink told me otherwise. Thank you so much for including me in this selection. You’ve made my night. 🙂

And for the record, my parents met in Liverpool so I have a lot to thank that city for. 😉 Have a wonderful time and thanks again,
    El

    • EL,

Lol, There could only be ONE EL! Glad to post your stuff. I did really like that article of yours. I had actually posted a comment to it a while back. I think it likely ended up in your “spam” folder though. I know a few tohers had told me they rescued my posts out of “their” spam folders.

Hopefully it was because I HAD used my login name as “Steve Scott Site” I have changed it to a simple Steve no, so hopefully no more issues.

Anyhow thanks for a great post and nice comments,

      Steve

      • I’m gutted now. I love it when people have a chat in the comments but because I forgot to check the spam folder for a few days, I ended up with about 50 and just yesterday, they were all deleted. 🙁

I guess it’s too late for this time but lesson learned. I’ll be sure to keep on top of it so I don’t lose proper comments. Funny thing is, I get a ton more than on the Give A Brick blog. I don’t understand why because both are do follow.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to comment and sorry it got deleted.
        El

        • Oh no worries El, I wasn’t complaining. I figure the problem was on my side, for whatever reason I was being seen by Askimat as being spammy. You were not the only site that I think that may have happened with either.

          • lol. I wasn’t gutted because I thought you were complaining. I was gutted because my place is so new, I still get excited about every single comment and you’d have given me reason to have a big smile all day. 🙂

I’ll save the excitement for next time 😉

Enjoy the rest of your holiday. Off to catch my beauty sleep now. Night night. 🙂

  4. It definitely seems to have it’s share of traffic.

I hope you do enjoy some of these posts, there are some good ones.

Glad to stop by your blog. You really seem to know your stuff and somehow I sense and little “no BS” style about you that I appreciate.

    Steve
