Steve’s Sunday Selections – Aug 1st, 2010

Howdy!  It’s Sunday.  That means time for another edition of “Steve’s Sunday Selections.”  We’ve got a lot of ground to cover, so let’s get rolling…

To start with I have an excellent post from Josh.  His post is about the differences between NoFollow and DoFollow blogs and how to easily and quickly tell the difference between the two.  Additionally he discusses many of the advantages of being DoFollow these days with all the great anti-spam filters out there for WordPress.  His blog actually made me change the way I do business here and got me to download yet another toolbar.  If you have a blog it is a must read if only so you can be more informed in case you disagree.

I have always loved books and reading, even though I do the majority of it I do these days is with a kindle or listening to audiobooks,  I still feel the power of searching for that special book and the occasional magic that you can get in a good bookstore.  Uzma was a wonderful article about that magic.

Justin has a great article about the wisdom you can acquire when you take the time to actually listen to people. You might be very surprised at the wisdom that surrounds you when you take a moment to listen.

Joshua’s site turned one year old this week.  Happy Birthday!  In this article he discusses the ways that all “free” publicity is not always worth the price.

Since I am lead to believe that, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself, I really enjoyed Bens discussion on two big fears that will hinder your success.  I have definitely felt both of these fears on occasion.

Neil had a great article over at his site with step by step instructions on how to build a website.  Actually all his articles are good.  He goes in detail and gives you step by step instructions on everything you need to know.  If you are wondering “how EXACTLY do I do _______ “   go to his site and do a little search and you will likely find the way, with nice big red arrows for every step.  I love big red arrows.

Sean wrote a wonderful article about using the example of Pixar for blog popularity.  I would say they are kick-ass examples to follow for everything.

Ralph has a nice rant about voting out all the politiciansLet them eat cake! Off with their heads!

Here is a post about a topic that I will admit I do not always understand.  Twitter.  I know all about it for “promotional” purposes, I just don’t get it in the, “really talking about my life” sense.  Regardless I liked this post from Jenni because it has two things that I do love.  Controversy and a cool title: Did Twitter kill the video star Now I am going to be humming a “certain song” in my head for the rest of the evening.

Since I am lead to believe that, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself, I really enjoyed Bens discussion on two big fears that will hinder your success.  I have definitely felt both of these fears on occasion.

To cleanse our palate from the discussion on fear I want to banish the dark side in favor of the light.  Turning from an article on fear to an article by Jennifer about the positive things that we all should be feeling while blogging

And then there was Karen’s awesome guest post about not forgetting the most important thing when launching an info product:  the customer.

Which leads me directly into the most important topic I will be bringing up today:  My Stuff!!

All kidding aside, you may have seen my post from the other day.  If you haven’t I have a new free info product out about hot niches.  I am pretty proud of this report and I hope it is something you all will enjoy.  I will be using it in the next few weeks to try and drive more visitors to this site, but I hope you all will either use it first or check it out and let me know what you think.  Thank you all for your time.

Well that’s it for this week! I definitely recommend you check all these articles and support these sites through Tweets, blog comments, and submitting to sites like Digg.  They work hard to provide content…so show them some love!

OH!  Welcome to August!

Take Action. Get Results.

  3. Hey Steve,

I just popped in to catch up on reading you latest post in your series The Secrets to

Long-Term Blogging Success, when I took a quick detour to see your Sunday Selections, and there I was.

Thank you so much for the mention 🙂

I see your in Scotland in the next couple of days, say hello to the clan for me.

    Neil, from the Clan Donald

    • Neil thanks for stopping by . I used to be part Scottish also until my mom ruined it… She is a part time genealogist and found out our Scottish ancestor was adopted and really Dutch or something. So no more visiting my old family castle (and there was an old family castle, supposedly) …really a medium sized pile of rocks but hey, stone pile of rocks people lived in= castle in my books

Glad to mention you, you really give great step by step instructions, most of what people post is knowledge that presupposes knowledge of the basics. I like that yours is a little different and gets down into the mud of how to do steps.

      Steve
