Today I wanted to add another lesson to our discussion of how to pick a niche for your online business. As mentioned before, this is the most important step you can take toward building an Internet Marketing empire that will bring you long-term success.
Up until now, we’ve covered the following topics:
- How to Research Keywords Using Google Adwords
- Finding Profitable Niches Using Clickbank and Commission Junction
- Using a Free Tool to Research a Niche
So what are we talking about today? Well, in this post I wanted to give you a quick lesson I learned a while back about the best niche categories. Specifically if you create an online business in one of these fields, you’ll have a leg up on the competition. Here’s what I mean…
The 4 Best Niche Categories
There are four basic niche categories that will be profitable until the end of time; they include health, wealth, relationships, and passions. Before I move on to why these are important, let me give a quick breakdown of what each includes:
Health- This category includes all the topics humans are concerned with about improving their health. This includes losing weight, gaining muscle, stop smoking, being more physically attractive, etc.
Wealth- This type of niche is centered on our financial success. This includes making money, earning passive income, investing, saving money, and career advice.
Relationships– This category covers any type of interpersonal relationship people have with one another. This can include dating, break-ups, how to improve your social status, and sexuality.
Passions- This is a pretty broad niche. Here you concentrate on hobbies and activities that people enjoy on a regular basis. They include things like golf, gaming, gardening, cooking, and surfing.
Now that we’ve covered the basics, let me explain why these are excellent niches for your online business…
Connecting to Universal Human Emotions
All of these niche categories are concerned with basic, fundamental human emotions. Over a century ago, your great-great-grandfather worried and thought about ways to make money, find love, feel healthy, and enjoy life a little bit more. Furthermore, I guarantee that one hundred years from now your great-great-grandchild will have the same concerns.
Even when technology changes the way people interact, these categories will never change. People will always want to make money, find love, enjoy their hobbies, and feel healthy.
By building an online business around these topics, you’ll always have a target market of individuals who will want to buy what you’re offering.
Getting Started…
How profitable are these niches? In truth, they can be extremely lucrative if done correctly. In fact, my entire income stream is built around a sub-niche within one of the four categories I just described.
Okay, now I’m going to ask you to do a little homework assignment. If you haven’t started your online business, I urge you to use this post (and the previous three I described) to find a niche. I recommend you take a few days and really dig deep to find the perfect market.
Like I said, this is the most important step in the entire process of building a successful Internet Marketing business. So I urge you to dedicate a little bit of time each day toward doing niche research.
Take Action. Get Results.
I guess the secret though is in the long tail to these niche categories. There’s certainly going to be a lot of competition in the general sense.

Long tail is definitely one of the keys here (Actually you just gave me an idea for my next post)…but I’ve had success by targeting major, massively popular keywords in this niche.
You can really put the last 2 in the same category, lifestyle, but what you say is true. Making money online falls into one of these 3 categories and they can overlap too. For example, golf can be “health” and “lifestyle” related. Good stuff.

Thanks Mike. For a long time, I believed in the 3 categories, but I’ve seen some “passion niches” where people spend a ridiculous amount of money.
I like this, I always knew health and wealth were two gigantic ones. I was introduced to them both back when I got into network marketing originally.
Now I do both as well, with more focus leaning in on health. I figure it is easier to break into that one, then build up the story to go into the hyper-rich realm of the make money niche.
Hi Scott,
Great tips for finding profitable niches
I will definitely go back and read through the other links on
this page
I totally agree with your process of how to find a good niche and
because I haven’t read the other posts yet, I have nothing to add 🙂
wishing you success,
