Thought I’d give you another post about my seven month trip through Europe. As I mentioned in the last update, I had to fly home for a couple of weeks and spend time with family. But a week ago, I was back in Madrid, ready to pick up where I left off.
Unfortunately my little journey started out on the wrong foot when I forgot that my ATM card was expired. For a couple of days, I had a mini panic attack wondering how I would get money.
Anyway, the problem is now solved. And I’m happily writing this post from Venice, not worrying about being forced to panhandle for extra cash.
I’ll admit that the first couple of days weren’t very exciting. But here’s a brief description of what I saw:
Cagliari
Right after Madrid, I flew into Cagliari, Sardinia. Unfortunately I had to spend a lot of my time fixing the money issue. The important thing was I learned a pretty valuable lesson. But, I managed to do a little walking around and check out some of the sites…
This is a pizza thingy that’s oddly similar to an ice cream cone:
Here are a few shots overlooking the skyline of Cagliari:
The following is a picture of an ancient Roman amphitheater. Unfortunately because of the typical four hour Italian siesta, I wasn’t able to get a closer look:
During the day, I took a nice stroll through a botanical garden. Saw some pretty cools plants:

In the garden, you can write a wish and then attach this paper to a plywood “tree”:
This is the moment where I realized I’m actually a sorta mature adult. Here was a fence with a giant whole in it. Beyond that was a really cool looking series of caves. Unfortunately, there was a VERY large sign saying you can’t enter. I’m officially an adult because I didn’t ignore the sign and climb in…oh well:
I have no idea what this is…it just looked cool:
Here are a few more pictures as I walked around town:

Villasimius
During my time in Cagliari, I took a daytrip to the beach town of Villasimius. It was a very overcast day, so I didn’t get to see the crystal blue waters like I expected. On the other hand, I had a chance to make a quick video.
Most people go to the beach and like to sit on the sand. Not me. I see a large tower in the distance on a hill and I feel like I HAVE to climb it:
This is the path I took:
I reached the top alive:
Here is the obligatory shot in front of the lighthouse:
And this is the view from the top:
Finally, I’ve included a few different pics from around the town and on the beach:

Closing Thoughts…
After reviewing the photos for this post, I’ve come to realize that I’m not taking many shots of people. I’ll have to start doing that in the next few places that I visit.
Finally, I wished I had more time to enjoy Sardinia. It really is a beautiful island that you should check out if you get a chance.
Take Action. Get Results.
looks like a great time, and such a beautiful country

It really is… was kind of hard to leave. I’ll definitely want to go back!
Steve,
I loved what you said…
“Most people go to the beach and like to sit on the sand. Not me. I see a large tower in the distance on a hill and I feel like I HAVE to climb it”
The combination of snaps – one of the distant tower as seen from the beach, and then another one of the beach as seen from the tower – is just wonderful!
Cheers!
Mark

Thanks man… For some reason I enjoy a place more if I’m doing something physical. Must be wired wrong or something.
